Camp Drive On Program Staff

About the role

The YMCA Camp Greenville is seeking candidates for the position of Creative Commuting Experiential Educator. This role is part of the Drive On Program, which runs from April through November, with weekend schedules and occasional overnight stays.

Responsibilities

• Lead and facilitate adventure-based activities such as high ropes, rock climbing, bouldering, hiking, and group dynamics.
• Organize activities and lead program areas.
• Assist with evening activities and special events.
• Maintain a safe working environment for staff and campers.
• Maintain clean and appropriate working conditions.
• Observe camper and staff behavior, identify and respond to hazards.
• Work with different age and skill levels.
• Model appropriate behavior around all groups at camp.
• Maintain living areas in a clean and presentable fashion.

Requirements

• Ability to communicate effectively with children, youth, and adults.
• Ability to develop and supervise creative and safe programming.
• Work non-traditional hours, typically weekends.
• Physical ability for crouching, lifting, and carrying 50 pounds, sitting, stooping, climbing, and leading strenuous hikes.
• Positive attitude and willingness to work unconventional hours.
• Active team member of program staff and camp community.
• Willingness to model appropriate behavior around all groups at camp.
• Have a positive attitude.
• Initiative to “jump-in” where needed and improve programs as seen fit.
• Time management for personal and professional responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 18 years or older.
• A desire and ability to work with children and adults in a Christian camp setting.

Skills

• CPR, first aid, AED.
