EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Oversees Camp Commerce guests, and enforces rules and safety standards;
- leads program activities, and assists participants in recreation activities and special programs;
- reports and resolves complaints, requests, safety conditions, and security issues.
Instructs, monitors, and supervises
- arts and crafts programs;
- team sports;
- games, and other recreation activities at Camp Commerce;
- organizes sports, hikes, and other exercise activities;
- maintains discipline at indoor and outdoor recreation facilities.
Instructs and Evaluates
- instructs various arts, crafts, games, and sports explaining the rules and techniques for each activity;
- evaluates performance of participants in instructional programs and assists with skill improvements;
- provides youth with the opportunity to learn life skills and subject matter skills in a physically and emotionally safe setting;
- reports unsafe conditions, accidents and injuries.
Supervises and Leads
- children and youth of various ages in diversified recreational based programs;
- monitors behavior and resolves issues;
- ensures that supplies, equipment, and facilities are in order, and recommends any necessary repairs or supply needs to the supervisor.
Provides Information and Assistance
- provides information and assistance to visitors and guests;
- resolves problems and customer service inquiries within scope of authority.
Operates Transportation Vans
- operates transportation vans in accordance with all traffic laws, regulations and procedures;
- maintains order among passengers, and handles volatile situations according to procedures.
Maintains Facilities
- performs daily vehicle inspection and cleaning prior to beginning service;
- ensures that all required written reports are completed and submitted on a daily basis including inspection reports, incident reports, accident reports, and operational problem reports;
- identifies and reports vehicle problems requiring additional maintenance and repair.
Maintains Physical Fitness
- performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent GED;
- One (1) year of recreation program experience, preferably experience in an organized camp setting.
Special Requirements
- Required Licenses or Certifications: Must obtain Class C with passenger endorsement within 90 day of appointment;
- Must possess First Aid and CPR certification;
- Must be available to work during camp operating hours including evening, weekend, and holidays. May be required to work overtime;
- Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards.
Other Requirements
- Requires occasional travel;
- Must pass a background investigation.

- The City shall match employee deferred compensation contribution in an amount not to exceed 5% of the employee's gross salary contribution per pay period;
- Part-time employees are not eligible for CalPERS Retirement Benefits.
