About the role

The Laboratory Technician will support the Caleb Brett business by performing various chemical and physical analyses on petroleum products, primarily under immediate supervision and in a training capacity. The role involves utilizing both non-complex and complex instrumentation and working a rotating shift schedule that includes evenings, overtime, and weekend coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Performs numerous chemical and physical tests based on American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) methods or accepted industry standards in multiple test areas.
  • Assists with equipment calibration, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Cleans glassware and test equipment.
  • Assists with preparing reagents, as needed.
  • Records data on appropriate data sheets and reports data to LIMS system.
  • Maintains quality records, control charts, and lab supply inventories.
  • Complies with safety, quality, and housekeeping requirements.
  • Participates in cross-training, as needed.

Requirements

  • Gas chromatography (GC) experience required.
  • Ability to multi-task in high production testing areas.
  • Good math and observation skills.
  • Proficiency using LIMS applications and established chemistry lab processes.
  • Excellent team communication, coordination, and cooperation.
  • Ability to follow standard and non-standard procedures.
  • Ability to utilize non-complex and complex instrumentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel (preferred).
  • Ability to work overtime as business needs dictate.
  • Ability to regularly lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Comfortable with exposure to various chemicals being tested.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
  • College-level Chemistry degree and/or prior work experience in a laboratory environment (preferred).

Schedule

Rotating shifts including:

  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
  • Monday–Friday, 1:00 PM–10:00 PM
  • Weekends, as needed

Pay

Base wage or salary range: $25–$26 per hour. Individual compensation packages are based on factors such as skill set, experience, and qualifications.
