About the Role

Produces high-quality decorated items and baked goods according to the company’s standard product offerings. Decorates cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery items. Assists in the daily operations of the bakery department. Promotes consistent and compliant operating conditions to increase customer confidence and loyalty. Provides fresh and appealing products along with courteous, knowledgeable, and prompt service.

Responsibilities

  • Service (40%)
    • Creates a welcoming environment to increase customer confidence and loyalty.
    • Ensures the department is merchandised per plan.
    • Maintains product availability, freshness, quality, and value.
    • Offers product samples, answers customer questions, and assists in finding or suggesting products.
    • Fulfills customer requests and special orders.
    • Maintains an efficient and organized method of receiving and processing customer orders.
    • Decorates merchandise per customer request to ensure satisfaction.
    • Uses decoration kits and freehand skills to prepare quality baked goods.
  • Financial (40%)
    • Completes daily and weekly tasks such as communications and online training.
    • Processes and bakes merchandise according to production guidelines; proofs products for quality assurance.
    • Reviews product quality for “sell by” dates and takes necessary action.
    • Checks production schedules to determine variety and quantity of goods to bake.
    • Receives and unloads delivery trucks; stores products in designated areas.
    • Stocks and rotates department products to ensure freshness and date control.
    • Maintains awareness of inventory and reports discrepancies.
    • Inspects products for quality and freshness; follows discard or markdown processes to reduce shrink.
    • Ensures products are held at proper temperatures per food safety guidelines and retains temperature logs.
  • Leadership (10%)
    • Promotes trust and respect among associates through collaboration and teamwork.
    • Communicates company, department, and job-specific information.
    • Guides and empowers the team to meet or exceed goals.
    • Adheres to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.
  • Compliance/Safety (10%)
    • Ensures company standards for safety, food handling, sanitation, and productivity are maintained.
    • Adheres to regulatory compliance requirements for food safety, USDA, and Country of Origin Labeling (COOL).
    • Executes product recalls and withdrawals in a timely manner.
    • Reinforces safety programs and inspects unsafe conditions; reports to management.
    • Notifies management of customer or employee accidents.
    • Reports safety risks, issues, and illegal activity (e.g., robbery, theft, or fraud).
    • Ensures adherence to wage and hour policies and regulations.
    • Cultivates a culture of safety; ensures associates have received necessary safety training.
    • Ensures Hazardous Assessments are posted and Personal Protective Equipment is available and utilized.
    • Reports and assists with remediation of safety hazards; ensures equipment is in good repair.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Authorization to work in the United States or the ability to obtain the same.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and background check.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Proficiency in English; Spanish is a plus.
  • 0–3 years of relevant experience.

Skills

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Operate bakery equipment (e.g., slicer, oven, scale, knives, box cutter, pricing gun) according to company guidelines.
  • Proficient with computer applications used in department operations.
  • Possession of Food Safety Certification or ability to obtain within 180 days of placement.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Regularly required to stand or walk on various types of flooring, utilize manual dexterity, talk, see, hear, smell, and perform repetitive movements with both hands and/or feet. Frequently required to reach at waist level or overhead, carry, push, or lift loads up to 35 lbs. Occasionally required to sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb up to 10 ft. Pulling requirement of up to 250 lbs.

Working Conditions: May be exposed to indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, and wet/humid environments. Safety risks include twisting back and/or neck, slippery or cluttered floors, hazardous equipment, sharp objects, loud noise, skin irritants, nuisance dust, fumes, sprays, hazardous cleaning solutions, and other toxins.

Required Equipment: Cleaning supplies, general office equipment, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner, material handling equipment (e.g., racks, carts, pallet jacks), powered cutting equipment (e.g., slicers, saws, grinders), various knives, ovens, stoves, rotisserie, fryers, steamers, proofer, wrapping equipment.

Personal Protective Equipment: Goggles, gloves (including cutting, fryer, and oven gloves), back brace.

Shift: Varied shifts.
