Michael Foods, Inc. is a leader in the food processing and distribution industry with business in egg products, refrigerated grocery, and potato products. Our Wakefield, Nebraska location—known as the Baseball Capital of Nebraska—has been producing liquid egg products since 1950 and raises chickens for our processing facilities.

Responsibilities

• Ensure chickens receive the proper amount of water, feed, temperature, and a clean environment.
• Maintain daily UEP records for water, feed, mortality, ventilation, and maintenance.
• Collaborate with coworkers, leads, supervisors, and maintenance teams.
• Move birds in and out of houses and maintain accurate population records.
• Keep feed chains, egg belts, and lights in working order.
• Maintain floor litter at a 1-inch depth and ensure it remains dry.
• Prepare houses for new flocks by turning them over between cycles.
• Keep stairs, aisles, fans, motors, and screens clean and free of trip hazards; ensure guards or shields are in place.
• Perform daily mortality runs and weekend bird runs in assigned houses.
• Address maintenance and repair issues immediately; escalate problems to leads or supervisors as needed.
• Adhere to all safety and Animal Humane policies and procedures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• No prior experience or training required; previous animal care experience is preferred.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, correspondence, and reports.
• Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance.
• Ability to apply common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagram-based instructions.
• Must be free of asthmatic or breathing conditions due to dusty working conditions.
• Ability to work on ladders, climb steps, and perform basic maintenance tasks.
• Capability to stand for most of the shift, walk long distances repeatedly, and lift up to 50 pounds.
