Cafeteria Worker

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily production, serving, and cleaning duties for the school lunch program.
  • Serves as a point of contact for students, assisting them with making healthy menu selections.
  • Assists in the preparation of foods using standardized recipes and menus, and portion controls in accordance with work production standards.
  • Sets up food on serving lines and/or steam tables and serves meals or meal components.
  • Conducts the cashiering function in accordance with established financial and accountability procedures.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all equipment and work areas including the kitchen floors, walk-in refrigerators, and storage areas.
  • Fulfills Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures and food safety standards.
  • Maintains production records, HACCP logs, and satellite control sheets.
  • Properly stores food and supplies.
  • Transports food from the base complex to the receiving school, if required.
  • Reports to any site in the complex as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • One (1) year experience in the field of food service is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent is preferred.
  • Knowledge of school system's safety, procedural, and policy guidelines, and applicable safety regulations.
  • Ability to understand and speak English.
  • Ability to maintain good relationships with teachers, students, and other employees.
  • Good human relations and communications skills.

Physical And Environmental Conditions

  • The work of this class is performed in a kitchen and cafeteria environment.
  • Duties require frequent lifting and carrying including objects up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to bend and kneel on a regular basis.
  • The ability to stand for three hours or more consecutively.
  • The ability to withstand extreme temperatures of hot and cold.

Conditions Of Employment

  • Annual completion of continuing education/training in accordance with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Professional Standards for School Nutrition Employees.

Grade

Grade 01 - 10 Month AFSCME Pay Scale

SALARY

$15.30 - $20.95 (Hourly Base Pay Scale for All Employees Represented by AFSCME)

Other Compensation

  • This position may also be eligible for shift differential and longevity as per the AFSME Master Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding.
