Cafeteria Monitor

About the role

Part‑time position (4‑5 hours per day) reporting to the Assistant Campus Operations Manager. Hourly rate: $17.50. Work locations: Eden Park Academy (6215 Manchaca Road, Austin, TX 78748), REAL Learning Academy (6405 S. IH 35, Austin, TX 78744), Altamira Academy (220 Foremost Drive, Austin, TX 78745). Hours will vary according to campus needs.

Responsibilities

• Manage students during meal service; refer behavior problems to the teacher or principal per site guidelines.
• Communicate with students and school staff in a positive, professional manner using appropriate customer‑service and interpersonal skills.
• Circulate throughout the cafeteria or serving areas, assisting students who need help.
• Assist with cleanliness of the cafeteria (wipe tables, serving lines, water fountain, hand‑wash station, milk cooler, etc.) using appropriate cleaning products; sweep and mop as needed.
• Assist with orderly class dismissal at the scheduled time.
• Encourage good table manners.
• Participate in training sessions, meetings, and scheduled cleaning days as requested.
• Perform other Child Nutrition Program duties as assigned, including training as a back‑up cashier.
• Travel to other school sites as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum/Required Qualifications

• Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently.
• Physical ability to perform duties at a sufficient speed.
• Effective communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

• Functional reading and writing skills in English and Spanish.
• Knowledge of meal pattern requirements and understanding of federal, state, and local program regulations.
• Knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation procedures for food service.
• Mature judgment, dependability, and a professional demeanor and ethics.

Work Environment

• Services provided primarily within a cafeteria and office environment.
• Frequent movement throughout the cafeteria to assist students with meal items.
• Regular attendance required.
• Work with a diverse group of individuals and job‑related equipment.
• Moderate problem‑solving required, often with frequent interruptions; attention to detail and confidentiality are essential.

Pay

$17.50 per hour.
