Cafeteria Monitor

About the Role

This is a part-time position working in the school lunchroom of an elementary school, responsible for overseeing students from the time they enter the lunchroom until they leave.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in the lunch line, including helping with condiments, opening milk cartons and other containers, and dispensing napkins.
• Oversee student conduct, seating, and needs to maintain an orderly lunchroom atmosphere by encouraging good table etiquette, respect for others, and discouraging food sharing.
• Assist parents, relatives, or visitors who enter the lunchroom.
• Arrange tables for student seating.
• Clean the lunchroom after each class and at the end of the day’s activities, including additional clean-up as required.
• Know and direct students to appropriate fire exits in case of emergencies.
• Perform related work as required.

Qualifications

Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the following:

• Knowledge of student behavior, particularly as applied to children, and familiarity with the language, culture, and characteristics of families in Loudoun County Public Schools.
• Ability to work effectively with children, supervise behavior, maintain discipline, and perform general lunchroom duties.
• Strong human relations and communication skills.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly communicate by speaking to convey detailed or important instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
• Possess normal cognitive abilities, including learning, recalling, and applying practices and policies.
• Frequently sit or remain stationary for long periods.
• Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.

Pay

Banded Rate, Band 2, at $15.65 per hour.
