About the role

Adventist Health Columbia Gorge, located in The Dalles, Oregon, operates a 49‑bed hospital, medical offices, home health, a birthing center, and a wide range of services throughout the Columbia River Gorge community. The Dalles offers scenic Columbia River views, local charm, and a variety of downtown restaurants and bakeries.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests, answer questions, take orders, accept payments, and serve food and prepare beverages.
• Maintain a clean and well‑stocked workspace and dining area.
• Update displays.
• Continuously expand knowledge of food and beverage quality controls, preparation methods, and presentation as outlined in the Café operations manual.
• Prepare and sell food, coffee, and other beverages by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques.
• Welcome guests and help determine their food and beverage interests and needs.
• Sell food, coffees, and other beverages by explaining daily offerings and identifying guests’ needs.
• Provide excellent guest service and improve the guest experience.
• Generate revenue by attracting new guests and defining new and expanded services and products.
• Educate guests by presenting and explaining the menu; answer questions.
• Maintain front‑of‑house inventories: replenish product supply, stock received orders, take inventory, maintain tableware and supplies.
• Keep equipment operating: follow operating instructions, troubleshoot breakdowns, maintain supplies, perform preventive maintenance, call for repairs.
• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Education/GED or equivalent (preferred).
• Associate’s/Technical Degree in culinary arts or equivalent combination of education/related experience (preferred).
• One‑year previous experience in food and beverage service with an emphasis on guest engagement and experience (preferred).
• Food Handler Card in the state of employment (required).
• Professional Food Manager (CPFM) or Multnomah County Food Handler (FH) or Food Safety Professionals (FSP) or ServSafe (SERVSAFE) (required).
• Valid Driver’s License (required).
• Completion of all required vaccinations as a condition of employment (and annually thereafter, where applicable); medical and religious exemptions may apply.

Pay

The estimated base pay for this position is $15.55 to $22.18 per hour. Additional individual compensation may be available through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
