Cafe Attendant

We are looking for an experienced, energetic, inspiring, and detail-oriented Cafe Attendant who has the passion and commitment for working with young children, teachers, and parents in an educational setting. This role involves preparing and serving over 500 high-quality meals and snacks daily to students, staff, parents, and special guests, while supporting our community partnerships.

Our permanent home is a $12 million facility located at 1707 W. Broadway in Monona, Wisconsin. This 13.5-acre campus includes a 157,000-square-foot school facility serving grades K-12, a 140,000-square-foot athletic center, a wooded nature area for outdoor learning, and outdoor play spaces.

Responsibilities

• Provide the highest quality of service to One City’s school community and guests at all times.
• Maintain positive interactions with scholars and teachers/staff while they are in the food service area.
• Understand basic dining and classroom dining set-up; deliver and clear food and materials accordingly.
• Properly follow procedures for disposing of kitchen waste materials and keep the kitchen clean.
• Prepare foods, stock, and clean One City’s daily salad bar.
• Operate a variety of kitchen equipment to measure, mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut, and shred fruits and vegetables, and trim and cut meat, poultry, or fish for culinary use under the supervision of the Executive Chef.
• Prepare food in accordance with current federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service.
• Record meals and snacks in a manner consistent with the federal School Nutrition Program, with assistance from One City’s School Nutrition and Operations teams.
• Attend all required training, comply with all One City policies and procedures, and participate in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments.
• Report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of One City, and to working with young children from diverse racial/cultural populations and their families.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one (1) year of ONE of the following: cooking, meal preparation experience in a commercial kitchen, deli counter/salad bar experience, or institutional food service role.
• Minimum one (1) year of customer service experience.
• Previous experience with cooking in a school or daycare, and with federal SNP (School Nutrition Program) or CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) is ideal but not required.
• Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses; excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
• Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 40 pounds.
• Excellent judgment, communication, and creative problem-solving skills.
• Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive.
• Completion of a background check required.
• Be at least 18 years of age.

Pay

$17.00 - $20.00 per hour.

Schedule

• Full-time, Monday-Friday daytime schedule with occasional nights and weekend work available for school events.
• Approximately 11 months per year with three weeks of unpaid time in summer, 1.5 weeks unpaid at winter break, 1 week unpaid time at Spring Break, and occasional unpaid days off when school is not in session. Employees may request work on unpaid days and/or use PTO.
