Position Summary
The CAD Engineer will produce and modify detailed technical drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and MicroStation. This role supports rail-transit design and construction projects by working closely with engineers and project managers to translate technical specifications into accurate, industry-compliant documentation. This position also includes fieldwork and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure design integrity and implementation accuracy.
Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Create and revise design drawings and 3D models for rail-transit infrastructure projects.
- Translate engineering sketches, specifications, and calculations into detailed technical documents.
- Ensure all drawings and models meet applicable industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field staff to support design development and problem-solving.
- Maintain organized digital drawing files, records, and supporting documentation.
- Aid in developing bills of materials and parts lists based on design documents.
- Participate in design and constructability reviews; provide technical input and clarification as needed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve CAD-related issues efficiently.
- Stay informed on emerging CAD technologies and industry best practices.
- Support field surveys and installations as required by project phases.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Certification in CAD/Drafting (or equivalent experience/education)
- 5+ years of experience using AutoCAD design software
- Familiar with CAD software such Bentley/MicroStation, REVIT, SolidWorks, or similar platforms
- Understanding of technical drawings and blueprint interpretation
- Knowledgeable in engineering and construction industry standards, materials, and regulations
- Familiar with project management and design workflow tools such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Procore
- Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Highly organized with strong time management capabilities
- Physically able to navigate construction sites (standing, climbing, stooping, crouching)
- Willingness to work outdoors and conduct field surveys
- Comfortable in all weather conditions and high-noise environments
- Recommended certifications: Amtrak Track Training, CSX Track Training, MTA Track Training, OSHA 30
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Works indoors in an office environment
- Occasionally works outdoors at construction sites
- Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under construction
- Sits, reads, writes and uses a keyboard
- May be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather
- May be exposed to loud noise
- Role requires air and vehicular travel at various times
