Cable Splicer - Underground (TECO)

Position Summary

The Cable Splicer is a safety-focused professional responsible for constructing and repairing electrical underground systems. This role involves working on energized and de-energized systems and may require travel to various job sites, including out-of-state locations, as needed.

About the role

You will report to the Foreman and will be expected to perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on underground power, conductors, and related hardware. You will lead crew members during pre-job and tailgate safety briefings, train and mentor apprentices and groundmen, and operate various pieces of equipment such as backhoes, bucket trucks, digger trucks, and mini excavators.

Responsibilities

• Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on energized and de-energized underground systems
• Lead crew members during pre-job and tailgate safety briefings
• Train and mentor apprentices and groundmen
• Install and repair underground power, conductors, and related hardware
• Comprehensively understand tagging procedures, grounding, and induced voltage on energized and de-energized lines using appropriate tools and test equipment
• Work in confined spaces and in proximity to energized equipment
• Operate backhoes, bucket trucks, digger trucks, mini excavators, and other equipment
• Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather
• Available to work outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations
• Perform live-line work using approved gloving and hot-stick techniques on energized lines
• Follow all safety protocols, including PPE use and understanding of insulated protective covers to isolate differences of potential

Requirements

• Three (3) years of recent underground experience
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
• Willingness to travel long distances on short notice
• Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
• Work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments
• Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime

Physical Demands

While performing the responsibilities of this job, you will be frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. You are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. You will perform job responsibilities in extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions.
