Primary Responsibilities
- Perform fusion splicing, ribbon splicing, and termination of single-mode and multimode fiber optic cables
- Install, route, dress, and secure fiber optic cabling in accordance with project specifications and industry standards
- Test fiber optic systems using OTDRs, power meters, light sources, and other fiber testing equipment
- Interpret construction drawings, splice matrices, cable schedules, and network diagrams
- Label, document, and maintain accurate records of fiber routes, splice results, and test reports
- Troubleshoot and repair damaged or underperforming fiber optic systems
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, especially within active data center environments
- Follow all site-specific safety protocols, security procedures, and change management processes
- Cook up with project managers, supervisors, and other trades to ensure project milestones are achieved
- Support commissioning activities and customer acceptance testing
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED
- Technical training in fiber optics or telecommunications preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of fiber optic splicing experience, preferably in data center, telecommunications, or mission-critical environments
- Proficiency with fusion splicing equipment, OTDR testing, power meter testing, and fiber inspection scopes
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, splice diagrams, and technical documentation
- Knowledge of ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and industry best practices for structured cabling and fiber installations
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast-paced environments
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or elevated locations as required
- Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, when project schedules require
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record preferred
- Fiber optic certifications (CFOT, FOA, BICSI, or equivalent) are preferred but not required
