CAAS Controller - SLG - Hybrid Position
About the role
CLA is seeking a Controller to join our State and Local Government (SLG) Client Consulting and Outsourcing team, supporting clients throughout New York State. This role will primarily involve on-site support for clients located in Western Upstate New York, with the flexibility to work remotely on an occasional basis, depending on client needs and project requirements.
Responsibilities
- Take on the role of consultant and advisor to your clients on best practices for accounting and finance-related engagements.
- Provide project management expertise by managing multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
- Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
- Foster and build opportunities and attend industry-leading events and trainings.
- Maintain knowledge of the client’s organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
- Advising management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
Requirements
- Six years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required.
- Experience with state and local government municipalities strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.
- CPA certification preferred but not required.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
- Grants Management Experience preferred.
- Knowledge of MUNIS preferred and/or other commonly used municipal software packages.
- Prior project management and client management experience preferred but not required.
Qualifications
- This position requires frequent travel to/from client sites and may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.
Skills
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
- Grants Management Experience preferred.
- Knowledge of MUNIS preferred and/or other commonly used municipal software packages.
