CAAEL Head Coach

CAAEL (Chicagoland Alternative Athletic Educational League) Athletic Coaches support the vision and direction of the Athletic Director and play an integral role in the development, mentorship, and performance of student-athletes. This role is in support of STRIVE students at KSD 111.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Head Coach, you will contribute to the overall success of the program by understanding your role within the coaching staff. Responsibilities include assisting in planning and conducting practices, implementing game strategies, promoting sportsmanship and teamwork, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.

Responsibilities

  • Consult immediately with the Head Coach on any coaching staff problem.
  • Work cooperatively with the Head Coach.
  • Attend professional development and maintain membership in State and National Organizations.
  • Show interest in athletes’ off-season activities and classroom efforts.
  • Demonstrate leadership and positive attitudes to inspire student athletes.
  • Foster an atmosphere of cooperation, receptiveness to suggestions, and recognition of success.
  • Recommend repairs and improvements to athletic facilities; report immediate repair needs.
  • Oversee issuance and collection of equipment; properly store and care for equipment.
  • Promote good faculty and community public relations.
  • Prioritize student-athletes’ academic responsibilities (students first).
  • Attend school programs to honor athletes, such as Awards Night.
  • Prepare a season resume in booklet form, including season statistics, team roster, award winners, and other pertinent information. Distribute to team members at the awards program and file one copy with the Athletic Director.

Requirements

  • Highly visionary, with a belief that all children and adults are capable of greatness.
  • Deep understanding of equity, especially in an educational context.
  • Commitment to personal growth and accepting feedback; demonstrated ability to implement feedback effectively.
  • Familiarity with computers, including email, internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with students, parents, and staff.

Qualifications

  • Certified Teacher and/or ASEP Certification.
  • CPR/AED Certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle and willing to transport teams to contests in district vehicles.
  • Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, including the human body.
  • Light work typically requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
