C Lineman - Underground
Position Summary
The Class C Lineman Underground is a safety-focused professional responsible for constructing and repairing electrical underground distribution systems. This role involves working on energized and de-energized powerlines and may require traveling to various job sites, including out-of-state locations, as needed.
Essential Functions
- Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of underground distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
- Install and repair underground facilities, including underground conductors, and troubleshoot and locate faults on primary and secondary systems.
- Learn and apply switching and tagging procedures, grounding, and induced voltage techniques on both energized and de-energized lines.
- Operate and maintain excavation equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
- Work outdoors in diverse environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
- Be available to work during outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations.
- Willing and able to learn live-line work using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and insulated sticks, under direct supervision.
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and understanding of insulated protective covers to isolate differences of potential.
Minimum Requirements
- Two (2) years of recent underground line experience.
- A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Able to travel long distances on short notice.
- Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
- Willing to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Physical Demands
- Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
- Occasional exposure to extreme conditions at construction job sites.
- Exposure to loud noise levels in the work environment and job sites.
- Exposure to extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions while working outdoors.
