About the Role

This is a technical specialist role responsible for Topside Packaged Equipment design, manufacture, delivery, and support. You will report to the supervisor or manager in the Controls and Automation (C&A) Department in Houston, TX, and serve as a technical engineering leader within the project team.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical responsible engineer for topside packaged equipment such as Hydraulic Power Units (HPU) and Topside Umbilical Termination Units (TUTA).
  • Document and adhere to system and product requirements.
  • Conceptualize and perform design activities, including conducting internal technical reviews to freeze requirements and system/product designs.
  • Develop, build, test, assemble, and configure project deliverables, including Factory Acceptance and Integration Tests.
  • Communicate project status and issues with customers, project management, and other internal groups; track and lead project technical issue resolution.
  • Support projects and products throughout the project/product lifecycle.
  • Ensure package equipment is delivered on time and compliant with project requirements.
  • Set up and configure test equipment for interface testing with package equipment.
  • Provide in-depth mentorship for incoming control engineers.
  • Represent the C&A department internally and externally in technical discussions and solutions.
  • Prioritize and anticipate internal and external risks and challenges, recommending best practice solutions and mitigation strategies.
  • Manage technical solutions to meet project requirements and specific portions of the project schedule and deliverables.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering preferred, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the field.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude required to review and oversee the structural design of package equipment.
  • Experience working to meet requirements from DNV, ABS, or similar industry standards.
  • Basic understanding and experience designing Hydraulic Power Units.
  • Experience with rotating machinery such as motors and pumps and their control is preferred.
  • Experience with hazardous area classifications and mitigating requirements through appropriate equipment selection is preferred.
  • Experience with third-party approval processes is required; familiarity with Nationally Recognized Test Labs (NRTL) is preferred.
  • Experience automating, controlling, and monitoring package equipment using local and remote controllers such as PLC, DCS, and locally manual controls.
  • Experience with safety systems and direct implementation of safety systems such as SIL, shutdowns, hardwired I/O, redundant controls, and intrinsically safe systems.
  • Specific knowledge of TechnipFMC topsides and subsea control equipment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical teams responsible for project execution constrained by safety, quality, delivery, and cost requirements.
  • Ability to lead multiple projects and teams from kickoff to completion.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to make independent system recommendations.
  • Accuracy, dependability, and ability to manage schedules and prioritize work.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively transfer subject matter expertise.
  • Ability to design complex engineering plans and review design work for systems and products.

Work Environment

The role primarily involves office work but may include exposure to shop or lab hazards, such as high noise and heavy equipment. Some travel may be required to visit TechnipFMC regional offices, plants, and vendor facilities.
