Buyer Trainee
About the role
Great Lakes Electronics Corp. started in 2000, when Nathan Zack began tearing down old computers in a garage. Twenty-five years later, we’ve grown into 11 locations across Florida, Michigan, Pittsburgh, and Kansas City — with scrap yards, processing centers, and hundreds of employees. And we’re just getting started. We’re looking for motivated people ready to grow with us, learn an industry from the ground up, and build a career that lasts.
What the Year Looks Like
- Rotating through every corner of the business and getting hands-on at multiple facilities
- Learning to identify, grade, and price commodities
- Reading the scrap metal market and developing a point of view on its direction
- Running day-to-day operations including shipping, receiving, processing, and packaging
- Handling domestic and international logistics
- Shadowing the sales team and building relationships with suppliers and buyers
- Working alongside operations leaders to understand what makes a recycling facility run well
- Mastery of safety, environmental, and compliance standards from day one
Where It Leads
After the program, you’ll step into a sales or operations role at one of our 11 locations. You’ll know the business from the ground up — which is why the people who finish this program become the ones running things five and ten years down the road. Plant roots here. Don’t just pass through.

Relocation

If you’re open to going where the opportunity is, there’s no ceiling on how far you can take this.
