Buyer Renewable Energy Parts and Operations and Maintenance
About the role
The Buyer is a critical operational role within the Supply Chain function, responsible for sourcing, procuring, and expediting spare parts and consumables across the company's portfolio of onshore wind, solar PV, and BESS plants. The Buyer ensures plant uptime is protected through the timely availability of parts and materials, while driving cost efficiency and supplier performance. This role also supports O&M procurement activities and manages all aspects of the purchase order lifecycle within the company's ERP system.
Responsibilities
- Spare Parts & O&M Procurement
- Source and procure spare parts, consumables, and O&M materials for onshore wind, solar, and BESS assets across the US portfolio.
- Evaluate technical specifications from operations and maintenance teams to identify correct parts, cross-references, and alternatives.
- Develop and maintain a preferred supplier base for critical components including inverters, transformers, blades, batteries, and BOS equipment.
- Purchase Requisition & PO Management
- Review, validate, and process purchase requisitions raised in the ERP system in a timely and accurate manner.
- Create and issue Purchase Orders (POs) in accordance with company procurement policy, approval authorities, and budget controls.
- Ensure all POs contain correct pricing, lead times, delivery terms, and technical requirements prior to release.
- Maintain open PO logs and communicate status updates to internal stakeholders proactively.
- Pricing Database Management
- Build and maintain a centralized pricing database for frequently purchased spare parts and materials.
- Conduct regular market benchmarking to ensure pricing competitiveness and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Track price trends across key commodity categories (copper, steel, semiconductors, etc.) relevant to renewable assets.
- Vendor Management & Creation
- Onboard new suppliers by managing the vendor creation process end-to-end within the ERP system.
- Collect and verify all required vendor documentation including W-9, insurance certificates, and banking details.
- Conduct basic vendor qualification assessments and support ongoing supplier performance monitoring.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date vendor master data within the ERP system.
- Expediting
- Proactively manage delivery timelines for critical and time-sensitive orders to ensure on-time delivery to project sites.
- Liaise directly with suppliers to obtain shipping confirmations, tracking details, and resolution of delays.
- Maintain an expediting log and provide regular status reports on critical open orders.
- Goods Receipt & Inventory
- Cook up goods receipt of spare parts and materials in the ERP system, ensuring accurate recording of quantities, condition, and location.
- Flag non-conforming goods and initiate supplier return or claims processes as appropriate.
- Overseas Shipping Coordination
- Manage international procurement activities including coordination with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and overseas suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with US import regulations, HTS classification, and any applicable trade compliance requirements.
- Oversee and track shipments from origin to US delivery point, managing documentation requirements (commercial invoices, packing lists, BOL, COOs).
- Identify and resolve customs holds, delays, or documentation issues to minimize impact on project schedules.
- Evaluate shipping modes (air vs. sea vs. road) based on urgency and cost trade-offs.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Support the annual budget process by providing pricing inputs for spares and consumables forecasting.
- Escalate supply risks to the Supply Chain Manager and relevant Operations stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Work with site and warehouse teams to resolve any discrepancies between POs and physical deliveries.
- Support cycle count and stock reconciliation activities as required.
- Support Accounting with invoice discrepancies, variances and supplier claims
- Presents, supports, and leads-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude.
- High School Diploma required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- CPSM, CSCP, or equivalent supply chain certification, or progress toward same required.
- 2 or more years of purchasing or procurement experience, ideally within energy, industrial, or engineering services required.
- 1 or more years of experience supporting field operations or maintenance teams with procurement activities preferred.
- 1 or more years experience in renewable energy – wind, solar, or BESS – related capital asset-intensive industries preferred.
- Ability to travel domestically 5 to 15% required.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, IFS) for PO processing and vendor management.
- Proven ability to manage multiple open orders simultaneously in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Experience with international shipping, freight coordination, and import documentation.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and document management.
- Knowledge of Incoterms and international trade compliance fundamentals.
- Familiarity with spare parts management for OEM equipment (e.g., Vestas, GE, Siemens Gamesa, SMA, ABB).

Qualifications
Pay
Anticipated base salary range: $70,000 - $88,000
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
