About the Role

Vaco is partnering with a leading distribution company in Birmingham to find an experienced Buyer to join their growing procurement team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in purchasing, supplier management, and inventory planning within a fast-paced distribution environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the end-to-end purchasing process for assigned product categories.
• Source and negotiate with suppliers to achieve the best pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.
• Maintain optimal inventory levels to support sales and operations while minimizing excess stock.
• Analyze demand forecasts, sales trends, and lead times to inform purchasing decisions.
• Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships, evaluating supplier performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with operations, logistics, and finance teams to ensure smooth procurement processes.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements within the supply chain.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3-5+ years of purchasing or buying experience, preferably in a distribution or wholesale environment.
• Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
• Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and Excel.
• Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
• Knowledge of procurement best practices and inventory control principles.

Pay, Benefits & Schedule

The salary range for this role is $70,000-$85,000 per year, plus a bonus and benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as a 401(k) retirement plan. The exact salary will be determined based on experience and other factors.
