Buyer/Materials Manager

About the role

Support mill uptime reliability by managing all functions of ordering MRO parts, bulk supplies, equipment, services, and Capital Projects services and supplies. Align efforts with mill goals, Wood Products goals, Operations Procurement strategy and roadmap, company vision, operational excellence and reliability initiatives. Build relationships and partner with the Procurement Lead Team, mill leadership, mill storeroom, maintenance, planning & scheduling, and other stakeholders within Wood Products. Primary location is Columbia Falls MDF, with periodic backup procurement support for other Montana Wood Products facilities as needed.

Responsibilities

• Align with Operations Procurement guidance, policies, and procedures; support mill leadership; communicate and collaborate with stakeholders.
• Manage RFx process for non‑stocked items, high‑value inventory, services, and certain Capital Project requirements; issue SAP Purchase Orders or Contracts.
• Negotiate pricing and commercial terms.
• Lead investment recovery: sale and disposal of surplus assets.
• Utilize strategic contracts; generate and record cost savings.
• Maintain high On‑Time‑Delivery performance.
• Manage supplier relationships locally: performance monitoring and issue resolution.
• Provide direct leadership and supervision of assigned storeroom personnel.
• Maintain storeroom workspace: cleanliness, organization, parts labeling, security/access, proper storage, picking and kitting.
• Participate in storeroom audits as required.
• Follow all Weyerhaeuser safety training, policies, and procedures.
• Understand latest Incoterms; ensure scope of work is clearly defined in PO/Contract; work with requisitioner to clarify.
• Effectively use Scheduling Agreements; maintain appropriate min/max inventory levels.
• Resolve shortages, receiving counts, and follow RMA/RGA process.
• Process invoice clearing within Approval Work Cycle; maintain SAP Contracts for Material Master sourcing.
• Maintain PO and Scheduling Agreement accuracy, including cleanup and closeout.
• Maintain accurate storeroom receiving and shipping records.
• Resolve invoices requiring intervention via SAP Workcycle tool.
• Resolve inventory discrepancies using root‑cause analysis.
• Dispose of surplus and obsolete inventory.
• Accountable for performance, training, and safety of storeroom personnel; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs repetitively.
