About the role
Own the end-to-end buying for Kids' Fashion — age-graded apparel across infants, toddlers and school-age children — including vendor sourcing coordination, pricing/margin, and direct ownership of quality assurance and quality control given the department's lean structure. Safety and durability standards are especially important in this category.
Responsibilities
- Select and finalize the seasonal assortment for Kids Fashion across age/size grades, based on customer insight, sales history and trends relevant to rural/semi-urban families.
- Identify, evaluate and build relationships with vendors — both ready-stock suppliers and manufacturing units — to source the category at the right cost and quality.
- Negotiate pricing, margins, payment terms and delivery schedules with vendors.
- Conduct QA/QC checks on samples and bulk shipments — fabric safety (non-toxic dyes), stitching, trims (choking-hazard-free), durability and labelling — to ensure product meets quality and safety standards.
- Track sell-through and inventory health for the category; recommend reorders, markdowns or vendor changes.
- Partner with the Planning Head on OTB and with store teams on merchandising and customer feedback.
Requirements
- 3–7 years in fashion buying/merchandising, ideally in kidswear, at a hypermarket, supermarket or value-fashion retail chain.
- Working knowledge of garment costing, fabric/construction quality, children's safety standards and basic QA/QC processes.
- Vendor negotiation experience; comfortable visiting manufacturing units/vendor premises.
- Understanding of value/mass-market and rural consumer preferences is a strong plus.
Preferred Background
- Buying/merchandising roles at hypermarket or supermarket chains (DMart, Vishal Mega Mart, V-Mart, V2 Retail, Reliance Trends/Smart Bazaar, Big Bazaar/Central, Spencer's) or similar value-fashion retail.
Location: Delhi NCR (HQ), with travel to vendor/manufacturing hubs and stores.
