Buyer I

Summary

The Buyer will play a vital role in the procurement process of materials, components, supplies, and services for the organization. Responsibilities include evaluating supplier performance, negotiating terms, generating purchase orders, and building relationships with suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery time, pricing, and service.
• Maintain a database of approved suppliers and update records.
• Negotiate favorable terms and conditions with suppliers.
• Generate purchase orders accurately and efficiently.
• Communicate purchase order details to suppliers.
• Monitor and track order status.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
• Collaborate with suppliers to identify cost savings and quality improvements.
• Conduct supplier performance reviews and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with inventory and production teams to forecast demand and ensure appropriate stock levels.
• Monitor inventory levels and take actions to optimize levels and minimize carrying costs.

• Continuously evaluate and improve procurement processes.
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in procurement.

Physical Activities Required To Perform Essential Functions

• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally.
• Work with personnel on manufacturing floor.
• Write by hand and keyboard.
• Communicate by speech and hearing simultaneously.

• Attention to detail and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred.
• Proven experience in a buyer or procurement role, preferably in a manufacturing or related industry.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Solid understanding of procurement processes, contract management, and supply chain principles.
• Proficient in using procurement software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make informed decisions.
• Knowledge of legal and contractual terms related to procurement.
• Professional certifications such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified Professional Purchasing Manager (CPPM) are desirable.
