About the role
Maintain reliable sources of supply that furnish material and equipment in accordance with AEP Engineering standards and specifications.
Interview manufacturer representatives and sales people concerning material and equipment that may be used at the Cook Nuclear Plant.
Assist with economical purchase of material and equipment without relinquishing quality and service.
Work with suppliers to develop alliances, which may include vendor stocking arrangements and just-in-time deliveries.
Assist with resolving basic conflict in commercial terms and conditions with Suppliers and AEP legal.
Work as a member of commodity teams consisting of buyers, Engineers, Suppliers, Stores and users to review our material requirements, specifications, stocking quantities and supplier base to find methods of improving the procurement process, leading to inventory reduction, freight savings, shorter lead times and overall lower cost for materials used at Cook Nuclear Plant.
Assist with bid proposals, review abstracts; explore the benefit relating to the placement of blanket orders and economy of purchase through competitive bidding with approved sources of supply.
Review and handle all correspondence relating to various commercial problems, change orders, cancellations and any other discrepancies that may come up regarding the purchase order.
Keep informed of sales, taxes and regulations insofar as they affect purchases and prices.
Keep abreast of economic trends and market conditions that may affect current price structures.
Establish and maintain buyer-seller relationships with suppliers of materials and equipment used by Cook Nuclear Plant.
Place Safety related purchase orders as assigned by Supervisor or designee.

Requirements
- Education: Associate degree in business administration, Supply Chain, Logistics, Inventory Management
or 2 years of procurement experience in buying, contracting, or supply chain, inventory management
or 2 years of nuclear parts experience - Preferred experience in Maintenance or Planning
- Buyer, Midlevel: Minimum of 4 years of purchasing experience in addition to any years of experience identified above.
Or 4 years of nuclear parts experience in addition to any years of experience identified above.
Preferred experience in Maintenance or Planning - Buyer, Senior: Minimum of 6 years of purchasing experience in addition to any years of experience identified above.
Or 6 years of nuclear parts experience in addition to any years of experience identified above.
Preferred experience in Maintenance or Planning
Qualifications
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
Physical Demands
May perform walk downs in plant environment which may include exposure to heat, cold, noise, and radiation exposure
