About the role
The Buyer is responsible for developing, executing, and communicating an Assortment Architecture that speaks to the VICI customer through relevant trends and exceptional price value. This role is integral to driving sales and profit plans and requires a highly collaborative individual who thrives on agility in a cross-functional setting. The buyer is responsible for bringing the creative vision of the company to life through impeccable product execution, as well as concepting key drops for their categories in collaboration with the Director of Merchandising and Chief Merchandising Officer.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain expert knowledge of the VICI customer and competitor activities; stay attuned to current trends and the fashion zeitgeist.
- Partner directly with vendors on product development to support a strategic exclusive assortment alongside buying off vendor in-line—this role is product development-intensive and requires a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and agility in managing multiple parallel workstreams to ensure flawless concept-to-market execution.
- Develop and execute a merchandise assortment plan that supports financial, merchandising, and marketing objectives for seasonal product concepts, key items, promotional strategies, and assortment mix.
- Set product and category-level pricing recommendations and strategies to align with financial plans.
- Deliver on Open-To-Buy (OTB) goals, including sales, inventory, cost, SKU, and margin objectives.
- Proactively schedule vendor appointments to fill gaps in the assortment and ensure OTB targets are met.
- Drive business recaps, performance reviews, and forward-looking action plans, including:
- Recommend styles for markdowns.
- Analyze and manage in-season performance, keeping a pulse on customer needs and emerging trends; read and react to weekly business to inform in-season and future-season actions, strategies, assortments, and chase (e.g., reorders, assortment cancels, edits, discounts, swaps, and adds involving vendor negotiations).
- Conduct post-season hindsight performance reviews to identify hits and misses and build future-season strategy.
- Partner with Site Merchandising to determine featured categories and products that support sales and inventory initiatives, always scanning for improvements and collaborating on ways to enhance customer experience.
- Positively influence cross-functional teams to hit category goals by effectively communicating key ideas at weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings.
- Build and maintain strong vendor relationships:
- Actively source and propose new vendors (if applicable) to executive leadership to fill assortment voids and keep product offerings innovative and on-trend.
- Drive vendor negotiations across product quality, purchase quantity, landed cost, delivery, and RTVs while maintaining positive vendor relationships.
- Educate vendors on VICI processes to streamline appointments and order-writing.
- Lead and develop junior buying team members, effectively communicating priorities and ensuring workflow management meets deadlines.
- Maintain operational excellence by delivering on-time assortments, completing necessary workstreams, and proactively troubleshooting as needed.
- Travel as needed.
Requirements
- Deep experience in women’s apparel with a proven track record of delivering to company KPIs, specifically in several of the following categories: intimate apparel, sleep and lounge, activewear, athleisure, swim, and cover-ups.
- Passion for and understanding of the VICI customer and how to best serve her.
- High taste level, broad market and fashion knowledge, and the ability to translate trends into commercially viable revenue streams.
- Excellent analytical, time management, and organizational skills; meticulous attention to detail.
- Demonstrates a high degree of personal and professional integrity.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, agile environment with shifting priorities and can manage details with vendors related to product development to ensure categories launch on agreed-upon target dates.
- Ability to work collaboratively across different groups to advance company objectives.
- Skilled at communicating and negotiating clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong problem-solving skills; willingness to think creatively to resolve issues.
- Demonstrated proficiency working with large data sets and systems like NetSuite and Shopify.
- Fluent in English with professional-level verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel), Mac, and Google products, as well as standard applications (Slack, Office365, Chrome, etc.).
Work Environment
- Works in an indoor office or home office environment, temperature-controlled.
- Sits for long periods, with intermittent standing and walking.
- Uses office equipment such as computer, mouse, keyboard, and printer.
- Occasionally lifts up to 20 pounds and may manage hung samples.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 4-6+ years of prior experience in retail/ecommerce merchandising and buying.
- Previous experience managing an assistant or associate.
Schedule
This is a full-time, hybrid position requiring 3 days in the office per week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Pay
$100,000 - $115,000 a year.
