Job Summary
The Buyer & Materials Planner is responsible for ensuring the timely planning, and availability of materials to support production, sales demand, and inventory objectives. This role leverages data analysis, supplier coordination, and cross-functional collaboration to optimize inventory levels, maintain supply continuity, and drive operational efficiency.
Primary Duties
Materials Planning & Inventory Management
- Analyze current sales data, historical trends, and forecasts to determine material requirements, order quantities, and timing.
- Monitor inventory levels and proactively identify products and components requiring replenishment.
- Track and report on product movement from suppliers through receipt to ensure continuity of supply.
- Support production and warehouse teams with internal product movement and inventory flow.
- Aid in developing and improving inventory control processes, tools, and systems to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Supplier & Procurement Management
- Manage assigned product categories, ensuring adequate supply and performance.
- Maintain and update supplier data, including pricing, minimum order quantities (MOQs), and lead times.
- Communicate directly with suppliers regarding production schedules, order status, and opportunities for efficiency improvements.
- Evaluate and identify products suitable for Supplier Managed Inventory (SMI) programs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with New Product Development (NPD) teams to understand new products, components, and demand requirements.
- Support Inside Sales by providing accurate and timely information related to inventory availability and lead times.
- Work closely with operations, warehouse, and production teams to align material availability with manufacturing schedules.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related field preferred.
- 2–5 years of experience in purchasing, materials planning, or supply chain within manufacturing required (aftermarket or powersports industry a plus).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and forecasts.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel – NetStock experience is a plus.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
