About the Role

The Buyer plays a key role in supporting the efficient operations of our manufacturing processes by sourcing and procuring technology and robotics-related materials. This role involves managing material inventory levels, contracts, coordinating with suppliers, and building strong working relationships across departments. Success requires attention to detail, effective communication, and a solid understanding of supply chain operations within a manufacturing environment.

This is a hybrid role requiring a combination of weekly on-campus and remote work, with specific days varying based on departmental policy. General business hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm CST. Regular, punctual, and predictable attendance is an essential function of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Review reorder reports weekly (or as needed) to ensure timely procurement of materials supporting production
  • Manage purchase orders end-to-end, including creation, confirmation, tracking, and status updates
  • Coordinate with suppliers to negotiate pricing, lead times, and delivery terms, and proactively follow up to resolve issues
  • Partner cross-functionally to maintain accurate ordering parameters, inventory levels, and material availability
  • Support production readiness by monitoring Expected Delivery Reports (EDR) and other procurement metrics for accuracy
  • Collaborate across departments to address part quality concerns, inventory discrepancies, and invoicing issues
  • Support engineering initiatives, including special projects, new product introductions, and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
  • Process ECNs through the purchasing workflow by obtaining quotes, issuing effectivity letters, and updating documentation
  • Participate in supplier selection, qualification, and ongoing supplier relationship management
  • Maintain supplier agreements, pricing, and contractual documentation
  • Identify and recommend cost savings and process improvement opportunities within the purchasing function
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align material needs with production and business priorities
  • Perform other work as assigned

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field or equivalent work experience
  • 1-3+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to manage supplier relationships, negotiate pricing and terms, and coordinate material deliveries
  • Experience working cross-functionally with planning, engineering, quality, and warehouse teams
  • Experience using ERP systems (Oracle preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Advanced problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with a track record of identifying root causes and driving issues to resolution
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Exceptional attention to detail, demonstrating consistency, accuracy, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Exemplary attendance, reliability, and punctuality

Remote Work Requirements

  • Must have high-speed reliable internet access with a hard-wired connection
  • Must have a distraction-free home office workspace
  • Must be willing to participate in video virtual meetings (camera on)

Working Conditions

This office-based position requires routine use of standard equipment and extended computer use. Candidates must be able to sit, use hands and fingers, and occasionally lift, stoop, bend, and reach. Problem-solving, practical learning, and instruction interpretation skills are essential.
