Buyer
About the Role
Responsible for the purchase and/or lease of construction materials and equipment, permanent facility equipment and materials, and replacement parts for company equipment. Responsible for procuring MRO type items including consumables, repair, and maintenance items.
Responsibilities
- Prepare written inquiries or obtain verbal quotes for vendor-supplied items in compliance with requisitions and/or specifications.
- Receive vendor bids, evaluate bids considering price, delivery date, past performance of vendor, etc. to determine successful bidder.
- Negotiate terms/conditions of and place purchase orders and subcontracts within parameters provided by team.
- Prepare and maintain all required documentation for each purchase order.
- Expedite awarded purchase orders when necessary to ensure timely delivery.
- Reconcile invoice problems with vendor and accounting, and delivery requirements with vendor and supervision.
- Help administer the preparation and maintenance of all required documentation for each purchase order.
- Assist with reconciling orders, receipts, and such into Construction and Accounting Software systems.
- Assist the buyer with the selection of the right product mix.
- Write, place, and track purchase orders.
- Ensure products are purchased at the right time, to specification, at competitive price within acceptable risk.
- Negotiate with vendors and build positive, project team-oriented, long-term relationships.
- Research new sources to expand vendor database and make recommendations to the buyer.
- Prepare competitive retail and pricing strategies.
- Plan, monitor, and maintain suitable inventory levels.
- Prepare budgets and forecast purchasing trends.
- Compile reports on product performance and statistics.
Requirements

- Manage clarifications to support accurate purchase in terms of what is needed, when the order is needed at best value compliant to requirements.
- Prioritize requests to complete purchasing with corresponding requirements, timeframe, and deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task and perform under pressure.
- Working knowledge of procurement techniques, procedures, and policies.
- Able to negotiate effectively with vendors in a manner that benefits the company and preserves the vendor relationship.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite.
- 3+ years construction purchasing experience.
- Bachelor's degree (technical or business) or equivalent combination of education and related procurement experience.
Physical Requirements
- Climb stairs.
- Sit for long periods of time.
- Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Use hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects.
Work Environment
Most work is conducted in a comfortable office environment but exposure to site and weather conditions also occurs. Field construction work is performed outside so exposure to all types of weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, is common. Personal protective equipment, including but not limited to hard hats and safety glasses, must be worn in all areas as required. Although the work usually is not considered inherently dangerous, you must be careful while performing onsite services.
