About the role

The Buyer sources, purchases, and manages inventory of materials, products, and services required to support business operations, evaluates suppliers, negotiates pricing and contracts, places purchase orders, and monitors delivery schedules to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement.

Responsibilities

• Purchase commercial and non-commercial parts and operating supplies/services to support manufacturing and new product development.
• Communicate and track reasons for inability to meet release requirements.
• Coordinate with vendors to obtain product information, pricing, delivery capability, and validation; track and manage on-time delivery and vendor quality, including quarterly reports and qualifications.
• Determine need for expediting; follow up on late orders and monitor delivery performance, taking corrective action as needed.
• Coordinate purchasing activities with manufacturing, planning, inventory, and engineering to acquire inventory cost-effectively and on time.
• Resolve accounting discrepancies and process supplier returns/rejections.
• Track and post weekly/monthly results; establish goals and benchmarks.
• Work with management to establish and develop purchasing systems and processes.
• Attend production meetings and resolve outstanding issues.
• Operate ERP software (Syteline) at a high level (Power User): maintain item master records, part methods of manufacture (MoM), costing methods, bill of material (BOM) exports and analysis.
• Actively participate in ERP software maintenance, coordination, strategic utilization, and development with the ERP provider.
• Manage commercial stock and modified parts to the machine shop for fabrication/production; manage commercial parts supplied to outside vendors.
• Achieve and track discounts while optimizing volume leverage with vendors and report results in an organized manner.
• Serve as backup to other associated and non-associated areas as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years hands-on experience purchasing components using MRP/ERP.
• Understanding of purchasing principles including research, analysis, and negotiation.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage a dynamic workload.
• Excellent communication, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills; professional phone and internal business etiquette.
• Persistence, determination, and a desire to get the job done; problem-solving while considering others’ ideas to achieve common goals.
• Self-motivated with the ability to complete tasks on time with little to no supervision in an organized manner.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook) and MRP/ERP experience.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; ability to make timely, fact-based decisions with confidence.
• Ability to manage difficult situations, respond well to change, meet commitments, resolve conflict, and maintain confidentiality.
• Understanding of mechanical and assembly drawings and on-screen 3D model interpretation.
• Understanding of basic manufacturing, quality, and on-time delivery management principles.

Pay

$70,000 – $90,000
