The Buyer at Prince Industries is responsible for managing the processes and systems related to servicing customers. This role involves securing and analyzing quotations, negotiating prices and terms with suppliers, and recommending suppliers based on cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Works to advance company sourcing programs
- Verifies nomenclature and specifications of purchase requests
- Estimates values according to market price and best quantity to maximize savings value
- Prepares instructions and collaborates with team regarding purchasing systems and procedures
- Prepares and issues purchase orders, change notices, and sends copies to suppliers, notifying necessary department personnel if required delivery dates cannot be met or if any changes are made to original purchase orders
- Interviews and confers with current and prospective suppliers to evaluate supply capabilities, transportation logistics, inventory control, and present and future material availability
- Maintains accurate procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality, and performance by inputting information in computer and/or maintaining records
- Maintains accurate records of receipts of material certificates/test reports for all incoming materials and maintains these records on network drives/ETQ
- Negotiates bids or purchasing contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority
- Expedites delivery of goods to Prince as required. Coordinates as appropriate quality matters and engineering changes/developments between company and suppliers
- Weekly reviews Vendor Open Order Report to expedite late product not received
- Coordinates with suppliers concerning late deliveries
- Maintains On-Time Delivery Performance Report for all suppliers according to quality certifications (i.e., ISO, QS)
- Resolves invoicing discrepancies when needed, working with the finance team and the supplier
- Initiates corrective action requests when appropriate, not only when prompted by the quality departments
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
Required Skills & Competencies
- Generates reports and business correspondence as needed
- Communicates effectively both in oral and written form, interacting appropriately with vendors and all levels of the company
- Effectively presents information and responds to questions from vendors, customers, and co-workers
- Uses excellent computer skills to work with procurement-related software, generate correspondences, perform data entry input, etc.
- Displays excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Shows excellent organizational skills to complete work assignments and prioritize urgent matters
Education and Experience
- A degree in business or Supply Chain Management related field preferred, or equivalent work experience
- 5-7 years of purchasing, buying, or procurement experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with purchasing processes through Epicor is strongly preferred
- Continuing education, certification, or formal training desired in the manufacturing field
