About the role

NEXXTA is a U.S.–based manufacturing partner with four Great Lakes facilities delivering precision, speed, and scale. The company serves industry leaders across transportation, energy, medical, and defense, offering tariff‑free production, open capacity, and rapid ramp‑up. With in‑house R&D and engineering, NEXXTA helps customers strengthen supply chains and build confidently in America.

Under the direction of the Purchasing Director, the Buyer is responsible for contacting suppliers to procure all purchases, ensuring on‑time deliveries, and supporting/mediating the resolution of any supplier‑related concerns or issues. The role also requires cross‑functional communication throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Issue purchase orders and follow up with suppliers until material is received in the system, including MRO items.
  • Coordinate material pickups from suppliers and request/maintain required paperwork (invoices, TDS, MSDS, COA, packing lists, certificates).
  • Communicate with suppliers to ensure specified delivery dates are met; issue change orders when dates must be adjusted and promptly advise affected departments (Production Planning, Materials Management, Production, etc.).
  • Monitor and evaluate supplier performance; alert appropriate personnel of potential supplier failures that could delay production or delivery.
  • Resolve shipment quality discrepancies by mediating supplier/manufacturing issues, facilitating inspections, substitutions, and standardization through conferences between suppliers and company personnel.
  • Negotiate and settle damage claims, rejections, losses, returns, over‑shipments, cancellations, and engineering changes with suppliers.
  • Prepare moderately complex reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Provide parts, equipment, and materials information by answering questions and requests.
  • Apply continuous‑improvement techniques to internal processes and systems to increase efficiency, improve customer service, and reduce costs.
  • Understand the Automated Procurement System and its relationship to interfacing systems; maintain purchasing databases to ensure prompt and accurate information for dependent departments.
  • Use generated reports and screens for control and manufacturing decisions; review procurement system databases daily for reschedules and cancellations and take urgent action as needed.
  • Assist Production Planning in reviewing purchased‑parts shortages to determine if sufficient quantities are available or in transit to allow schedule changes.
  • Process accounting tasks for price and quantity discrepancies; post daily acknowledgements to purchase orders and follow up on un‑acknowledged orders.
  • Review rejected material, complete disposition with corrective action, and maintain metric validity through daily maintenance.
  • Determine proper quantities of materials (resins, inserts, packaging, etc.) and establish deliveries to meet production schedules using MRP, machine run time, and other relevant data.
  • Monitor raw‑material forecasts, including packaging, and keep schedulers apprised of material‑availability problems through daily contact and production‑scheduling meetings.
  • Establish and monitor inventory processes (Kanbans, VMI, Pull/Lean, consignment) with vendors; work to reduce inventory levels without interrupting plant service.
  • Maintain reasonable inventory levels that are economical to supply and align with production schedules.
  • Follow the Purchasing department’s increase process as required and participate in all functions of physical inventory.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of planning and acquisition processes, purchasing requisitions, purchases, and procedures.
  • Work closely with cross‑functional teams to develop and engage sourcing strategies; create scorecards to monitor supplier performance.
  • Present and elaborate on the monthly PPV report and address any questions.
  • Assist with audits such as IATF and ISO.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related coursework (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience in purchasing, customer service, or production scheduling.
  • APICS certification strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work fairly independently with minimal supervision.
  • Data‑entry experience and strong intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Knowledge of the materials purchased, related programs, and purchasing‑department procedures.
  • Dependable with an excellent attendance record.
  • Detail‑oriented with accurate work and strong follow‑up skills.
  • Effective presentation skills for one‑on‑one and small‑group situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all organizational levels, both internal and external.
  • Problem‑solving ability to address practical issues with limited standardization.
