Buyer

Essential Functions

• Ensure safety and compliance with HPSI’s core principles for all personnel within the shipyard.
• Communicate, understand, and enforce HPSI safety procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Process Purchase Requisitions, Issue Request for Quotes, conduct bid analysis, negotiate, and issue Purchase Orders using SAP.
• Develop successful negotiation strategies for purchasing material, equipment, and services for ship production and yard operations.
• Work closely with Production and Engineering to ensure materials, equipment, or services meet all requirements.
• Maintain vendor performance to ensure orders arrive on time and within budget.
• Coordinate and manage the General Stock Items (GSI) list and handle domestic sourcing.
• Work with Material Control and Production to document Material Problem Reports (MPRs) and seek resolutions.
• Monitor and document project shipments and schedule changes.
• Manage Production Need Dates (PNDs) and communicate with procurement partners.
• Manage Material Supply Agreements with project procurement partners.
• Travel may be required.
• Support meetings required for the project.
• Conduct market research, obtain quotes, and develop estimates for new projects.
• Collaborate with other Buyers to ensure goods arrive on time and project milestones are met.
• Provide timely updates and information to key stakeholders as requested.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience

• A Bachelor's of Science or Art college degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Purchasing.
• Experience in Shipbuilding industries and Government contracting is a plus.
• Familiarity with Microsoft software applications such as Word and Excel.
• Proficiency in Access and Power Point.
• Proficiency in SAP.

Physical Demands

• Sufficient range of motion for general lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, climbing, working at heights, extended walking or standing.

Work Environment

• Environmental exposures similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings, including noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes, and smoke.
• May involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.
