About the role
The Buyer at Dover Fueling Solutions (DFS) ensures production has the necessary materials on time to meet demand. Responsibilities include PO execution, inventory control, ERP/MRP maintenance, supplier relations, price negotiation, managing order exceptions, and supporting cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Purchase Order Execution: Evaluate MRP suggestions, process requisitions, generate PO's with approved suppliers, schedule deliveries, and follow up to ensure on-time delivery.
- Inventory Control: Monitor inventory levels to prevent stockouts while avoiding obsolete, slow-moving, and excess inventory (OSMI).
- ERP/MRP Maintenance: Ensure all parameters affecting MRP are up-to-date and aligned with strategic objectives of the value stream (MOQ, Fixed Lot Multiplier, Lead Times, Fixed Days Supply, Safety Stock, Forecast, Sourcing Assignments, etc.). Troubleshoot and adjust parameters when MRP suggestions don't make sense.
- Supplier Relations: Resolve day-to-day issues regarding delivery delays, pricing discrepancies, minor quality issues, and collaborate with Quality Engineers/Supplier Quality Engineers for more technical quality issues. Communicate rev changes to approved suppliers.
- Price Negotiation: Secure competitive pricing and drive for best cost solutions. Negotiate routine price increases and escalate to strategic sourcing team when necessary.
- Additional Responsibilities: Manage daily order exceptions, review cell pull demand report and MRP workbench, develop and drive solutions to supply issues, ensure clear documentation and acknowledgment of requirements, terms, conditions, and expectations, implement two bin Kanban Programs, Warehouse Distribution Models, and VMI, reconcile open order reports, assist with material changes, and help resolve AP issues and invoice discrepancies.
Qualifications
- Minimum: Associates of Applied Science Degree and two to three years of direct tactical procurement experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, or equivalent education and work experience. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) – Required. Proficiency with pivot tables and VLOOKUPs – Preferred.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (experience with Oracle is a plus).
- Thorough knowledge of MRP & MPS planning systems and principles.
- Full understanding of supply chain management principles & change management.
- Basic understanding of lean manufacturing, assembly processes, machining, and metal fabrication are highly desired.
