Delta Utilities is a natural gas utility headquartered in New Orleans that provides safe, reliable natural gas services across Louisiana and Mississippi. We serve 600,000 customers and are among the top 40 natural gas utilities in the United States. Delta Utilities acquired CenterPoint Energy's natural gas utility operations in Louisiana and Mississippi in April 2025 and Entergy's natural gas utilities in Baton Rouge and New Orleans in July 2025.

About the role

The Buyer plays a vital role in performing purchasing duties in support of department functions for Delta Utilities’ gas operations. This position requires strong time management and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with legal, procurement, and operational teams. The ideal candidate thrives in a startup setting, bringing adaptability, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities with a proactive approach.

Responsibilities

• Convert requisitions to purchase orders for goods, services, and construction projects to support gas utility operations, fleet, and corporate purchases.
• Draft, review, and negotiate purchase orders for goods, services, and construction projects.
• Work closely with the operational team to ensure prompt order issuance and correct accounting codes are used.
• Create and maintain blanket contracts with multiple lines in Oracle WACs.
• Collaborate with legal and procurement teams to ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
• Work closely with vendors to facilitate vendor setup, invoice resolution, and delivery needs.
• Identify potential risks within the workstream and recommend improvement strategies.
• Report on and analyze PO status and needs throughout the lifecycle to ensure appropriate delivery of goods and services and prompt payment.
• Assist Strategic Sourcing team members as needed in contract creation, bid events, and supplier business reviews.
• Support the team in the creation and maintenance of reports, PowerPoints, and training documents for all aspects of the supply chain team.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of standard operating procedures for the supply chain team.
• Recommend improvements to streamline contract workflows and enhance efficiency of processes and workflows within the team.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned, within your scope of responsibilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, legal studies, or a related field. In lieu of a degree, 5 years of purchasing experience is required.
• Experience in contract management, procurement, or other business or operations analytics role preferred.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to quickly learn and adapt to contract management and other systems.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and advise stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements

• Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
• Able to sit for extended periods of time.
• Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
• Able to exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, or otherwise move objects.

Working Conditions

• Job duties are performed in a normal and clean office environment with normal noise levels.
• Work is predominately done while standing or sitting.
• The ability to comprehend, document, calculate, visualize, and analyze is required.
• Able to work regular hours, with occasional overtime.
