Responsibilities
- Monitor inventory levels and purchase products based on customer demand, service expectations, and business needs
- Analyze sales, margins, inventory turns, profitability, and service levels for assigned product categories
- Communicate supply disruptions, product shortages, inventory concerns, and order updates to internal stakeholders
- Identify slow-moving, excess, discontinued, and dead stock, and support corrective action plans
- Optimize inventory investments while maintaining product availability and customer service levels
- Communicate with supplier representatives regarding pricing, product availability, promotions, incentives, and order status
- Build positive supplier relationships that support company objectives and purchasing performance
- Aid in resolving supplier issues, delivery delays, pricing discrepancies, and product concerns
- Support supplier rebate programs, payment targets, and promotional agreements
- Cook new product setup and ensure product information is accurate across company systems
- Coordinate product launches, promotional programs, marketing campaigns, and category initiatives
- Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance, and other departments to support organizational goals
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, reports, and daily communications
- Use purchasing data, inventory reports, and performance metrics to support informed decision-making
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve purchasing processes, and strengthen operational efficiency
Requirements
- Approximately 2–3 years of experience in purchasing, buying, inventory management, supply chain, wholesale distribution, grocery, convenience stores, or retail
- Strong understanding of inventory management, product performance, purchasing operations, and supplier relationships
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, and Microsoft Word
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to analyze inventory, financial, and category performance data
- Strong organizational, relationship-building, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- A proactive approach to identifying concerns, communicating issues, and implementing solutions
- The ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- The ability to maintain clear stakeholder expectations when managing circumstances outside the company’s control
- A willingness to work onsite five days per week in Elmwood, Louisiana
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, purchasing, or a related field
- Experience purchasing products for convenience stores, grocery stores, department stores, or another wholesale environment
- Experience working with K3 or similar wholesale purchasing software
- Experience managing product assortments, supplier programs, rebates, and promotional initiatives
