This Buyer 2 role is for a novice supply chain professional responsible for representing the company in sourcing, strategic selection, and management of vendors to procure the highest quality products on time and within agreed-upon terms under general supervision.

Responsibilities

• Use discretion and independent judgment to procure components, materials, and equipment that meet demand while making decisions on economic order quantities, factoring in price, delivery costs, demand levels, timing, market trends, and potential for design changes or obsolescence.
• Align product deliveries to minimize inventory while ensuring production and service needs are met.
• Assess financial and schedule risks to recommend volume buys and other strategic decisions.
• Perform market research to identify vendors/suppliers and determine their viability to meet business needs.
• Assess vendor/supplier capabilities through factory audits and performance evaluations, driving improvements as needed.
• Manage qualification and implementation of products from new suppliers by consulting with internal engineering, quality, and production teams.
• Negotiate cost reductions, mitigate cost increases, and ensure optimal terms using market data, technical understanding, and strategic methods.
• Initiate projects to resource parts and recommend alternate designs or manufacturing methods for current parts and new design prototypes.
• Analyze components and raw materials costs using quantitative methods and perform variance analyses for price changes.
• Lead resolution on supplier-related quality, design, or manufacturing issues with support from appropriate departments.
• Monitor supplier performance, provide feedback via supplier scorecards, and drive completion of Corrective Action reports for quality or delivery issues.
• Review key purchasing drivers (lead time, safety stock, lot size) and adjust them to meet current business needs.
• Follow instructions, procedures, and escalate issues impacting workflow or quality while demonstrating honesty, integrity, and adherence to company policies.

Requirements

• Microsoft Office experience required.
• Understanding of specifications and blueprint reading.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with suppliers and coworkers.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
• 0-5% travel required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS/BFA/BSA) from a four-year college or university, with preferred majors in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or Engineering.
• 0-1 year of related experience, training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations in English.
• Ability to write analytical and technical reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, and instructional reference material.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers, employees, or the general public.
• Proficiency in calculating figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Ability to apply concepts of arithmetic, algebra, and geometry.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Desired Skills

• Ability to speak Mandarin or Korean is a plus.
• Advanced knowledge of Excel is a plus.
• SAP experience preferred.
