About the role
The Assistant Custodial Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of the assigned facility. This position serves as the main point of contact for Building Services concerns at the assigned school.
Responsibilities
- Surveys assigned facility and determines maintenance needs.
- Determines areas of neglect and reports them for preventive maintenance.
- Generates work orders in SchoolDude and tracks their progress.
- Performs minor preventative maintenance tasks such as unclogging sinks and drains, repairing tile floors and ceilings, changing light bulbs, and patching and painting.
- Cleans assigned facilities, including corridors, bathrooms, and classrooms.
- Maintains security by ensuring the building is locked and secured each evening.
- Assures all duty lists are covered and complete.
- Performs stripping and waxing of floors.
- Assures grounds are free from rubbish and floors are kept clean and attractive.
- Reports concerns or issues to the Custodial Supervisor as necessary.
- Assists with other custodial tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required; technical degree in general crafts or maintenance preferred.
- Minimum three years of experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Aptitude for safety and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with many types of school personnel.
- Able to read and write, and to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to use and care for a variety of cleaning agents, materials, and equipment.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the proper and safe use of equipment, tools, and materials necessary for assignment completion.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures, materials, and supplies, and general maintenance repairs.
- Physical ability to lift up to 100 pounds, frequently.
- Specific vision requirements including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
- Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry.
- Ability to read and understand printed material and computer screens.
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
- Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
