About the role
We're looking for a Business Technical Architect who can bridge the gap between business needs and technical solutions in the investment management sector.
Responsibilities
- Analyze data directly using SQL against Oracle and distributed processing on Hadoop/PySpark to answer business questions and validate assumptions.
- Design target-state data models, integration patterns, and data-serving designs including GraphQL and other API layers that balance performance, cost, and maintainability.
- Drive the business discussion by turning ambiguous needs from portfolio managers, researchers, risk managers, and clients into clear problem statements, prioritized backlogs, and outcomes stakeholders care about.
- Lead the technical discussion by participating in design reviews with engineering and platform teams, making and defending trade-offs on modeling, storage, processing, and distribution.
- Own the data domains such as security master and reference data, market/pricing data, holdings and transactions, benchmarks, performance and attribution, risk, and ESG/alternative data.
- Govern data as a product by ensuring ownership, quality SLAs, lineage, and shared definitions so that terms like "position" or "AUM" are consistent across the organization.
- Rationalize vendors and platforms by evaluating market data and platform vendors (such as Bloomberg, LSEG/Refinitiv, FactSet, MSCI, ICE, Aladdin/other OMS) against coverage, cost, and redundancy.
Requirements
- 7-12 years of experience in investment management, financial services data, or related consulting, with real-world exposure to the buy-side investment lifecycle.
- Advanced SQL skills, including query writing and performance tuning against Oracle databases (PL/SQL experience is a plus).
- Working knowledge of the big-data ecosystem (HDFS, Hive, etc.) and proficiency in PySpark for building and optimizing distributed data processing.
- Fluency in investment data domains such as security master, benchmark files, performance return streams, and their interconnections.
- Proven ability to act as a genuine hybrid, trusted by business stakeholders and respected by engineers.
- Data modeling and architecture experience, capable of designing a target state rather than just critiquing existing solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, comfortable navigating discussions with various stakeholders including portfolio managers, researchers, risk managers, and clients.
