SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Initiates collections for delinquent business occupation taxes by visiting businesses on delinquency lists and reported citations.
- Schedules appointments with cited taxpayers to complete appropriate forms, collect fees, create invoices, and process payments.
- Affixes violation notifications to non-compliant businesses and schedules compliance appointment dates.
- Addresses questions or concerns regarding cited violations and citizens' complaints about enterprises to the City of South Fulton.
- Makes cold calls to delinquent businesses and mails notices of violations—schedules appointments for compliance.
- Assists customers with applying for Business Occupational Tax Certificates, answers phone calls, and serves walk-in customers.
- Explains the requirements for obtaining a Business License and permits issued by the Business Tax Division.
- Reviews applications, presents them to zoning for approval, notarizes required documents, verifies the calculation of fees, and makes copies of all paperwork.
- Communicates with vendor representatives regarding the status of delinquency lists, calculates fees during field visits when customers opt to pay immediately, and verifies the status if the license is not present at inspection visits.
- Processes various department/division operations documentation within designated timeframes and established procedures.
- Receives and reviews Business License Applications, Renewal Worksheets, New Business Listing Subscription Forms, and Delinquency Reports.
- Reviews, completes, processes, forwards, or retains as appropriate.
- Prepares various forms, reports, and correspondence, including Delinquency Notices, Vehicle Maintenance/Emission Reports, Business Listing Subscriptions, and informational pamphlets.
- Compiles data for further processing or use in preparing department reports.
- Maintains computerized and hardcopy records.
- Ensures compliance with business tax requirements.
- Handles and processes open record requests.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED
- A high school diploma supplemented by two (2) years of financial office work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum physical exertion requirements as moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
- Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals.
- Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
