Business Systems Software Engineer

About the role

Designs, develops and maintains business systems software solutions to increase efficiency and productivity of supported staff. Coordinates system testing and assists users with acceptance testing. Facilitates the design, development and maintenance of data and process models. Performs complex analysis, design, development, testing, documentation and debugging of computer software.

Responsibilities

• Defines and documents requirements in collaboration with Business Clients, Software Engineers and Technical Support team(s).
• Writes and documents process and program specifications.
• Ensures proper documentation standards and procedures are maintained.
• Designs, develops and maintains data integration applications and solutions.
• Works with Technical Support team to minimize performance issues.
• Collaborates on system testing and assists users with acceptance testing.
• Facilitates the design, development and maintenance of data and process models.
• Engages vendors of applications and systems to assist with best practice implementations and troubleshooting.
• Develops and documents workflow and makes appropriate recommendations to improve operational effectiveness.
• Researches and provides guidance in the use of new technologies.
• Participates in the evaluation of appropriate technology candidates and personnel during the interview stage.
• Serves on various committees as assigned.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
• Four years’ professional experience in the fields of payroll information systems, business administration, or systems administration.
• Two years’ experience in developing information systems solutions or systems administration in the Oracle Cloud Fusion platform.
• Project management experience and knowledge in the operation of public sector management systems is preferred.

Pay

$91,115 to $146,555 (Annual Salary Scale for Exempt 12-Month Employees Represented by BCPS OPE 2026-2027 Effective July 1, 2026)
