About the role
The Business Systems Analyst II (BSA) bridges the gap between business needs and IT solutions, ensuring IT projects align with business objectives and deliver value. This role involves analyzing business processes, identifying requirements, and developing specifications for IT systems that enhance business operations and performance. The BSA works closely with stakeholders across various departments to ensure IT systems are aligned with business goals.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough analysis of business processes and workflows to identify opportunities for improvement and automation.
- Elicit, document, and validate business and system requirements through interviews, workshops, surveys, and analysis of existing systems.
- Translate business requirements into detailed functional and technical specifications for IT solutions using tools such as process flow diagrams, data flow diagrams, and BPMN.
- Collaborate with IT developers, architects, and other stakeholders to design IT solutions that meet business requirements, ensuring technical feasibility, scalability, and alignment with enterprise architecture standards.
- Develop use cases, user stories, and process diagrams to guide development and implementation.
- Participate in design reviews and provide input on potential improvements and optimizations.
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT), and track defects to ensure IT solutions meet requirements and quality standards.
- Assist in the implementation and deployment of IT solutions, including system configuration, data migration, and user training.
- Provide post-implementation support, develop user documentation, training materials, and system procedures, and offer ongoing troubleshooting.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders, acting as a liaison between business users and IT teams.
- Facilitate communication, conduct regular meetings, and gather feedback to incorporate into project plans.
- Perform gap analysis, feasibility studies, and cost-benefit analyses to evaluate potential solutions and their impact on business operations.
- Analyze and interpret data to support decision-making, identify trends, and create business cases for proposed projects.
- Monitor and evaluate IT system performance, recommend innovative solutions, and participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Prepare reports, dashboards, and presentations for management, and maintain accurate documentation of requirements, specifications, and training materials.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field (or 6-8 years of additional relevant experience).
- Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst or similar role, with a proven track record of delivering IT solutions.
- 1+ years of experience in analyzing and documenting business processes, requirements, and system specifications.
- 1+ years of experience with software development lifecycles, project management methodologies, and testing/QA processes.
- 1+ years of experience conducting feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and creating business cases.
- CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) or CCBA (Certification of Competency in Business Analysis) preferred.
- Additional certifications in relevant areas (e.g., PMP, Agile, Lean Six Sigma) preferred.
