At Cloudflare, we are on a mission to help build a better Internet. Today the company runs one of the world’s largest networks that powers millions of websites and other Internet properties for customers ranging from individual bloggers to SMBs to Fortune 500 companies. Cloudflare protects and accelerates any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. Internet properties powered by Cloudflare have web traffic routed through its intelligent global network, which gets smarter with every request, resulting in significant performance improvements and decreased spam and other attacks. Cloudflare was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Company Cultures list and ranked among the World’s Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company.

We’re not looking for people who wait for a polished roadmap; we’re looking for builders who see the cracks in the Internet that everyone else has simply learned to live with. We value candidates who have the instinct to spot a "normalized" problem and the AI-native curiosity to create solutions using the latest tools. Our culture is built on iteration, leveraging AI to ship faster today to make it better tomorrow, while ensuring every improvement, no matter how small, is shared across the team to lift everyone up. If you’re the type of person who values curiosity over bureaucracy and sees AI as a partner in solving tough problems to keep the Internet moving forward, you’ll fit right in.

About the role

Cloudflare's FinTech Engineering team builds and runs the software and systems that make Cloudflare operate efficiently and enable our customers and partners to do business with us. This role sits at the intersection of billing systems, fraud, and operations. Millions of customers self-serve onto Cloudflare, which means our billing stack processes an enormous volume of transactions and is a constant target for abuse. Cloudflare also ships new products constantly, and every one of them must bill correctly and land accurately in revenue accounting. When something breaks, when someone tries to game the system, or when a new product is about to go live, you ensure we get it right.

You will work with engineers, finance, support, trust and safety, and product teams. This role has real, visible impact: the problems here are unsolved rather than pre-scoped, the surface area is large, and the work directly translates into revenue protected, fraud prevented, smooth launches, and the elimination of manual work. You’ll gain exposure to the full quote-to-cash stack, real ownership from day one, minimal hand-holding, and the opportunity to leave systems and processes meaningfully better than you found them. If you want to point at something a year from now and say you built that, this is that kind of role.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate fraud and payment abuse: Dig into suspicious signup, payment, and usage patterns. Trace how bad actors got through, quantify the impact, and work with Data Science to close the gap, turning one-off investigations into repeatable detection.
  • Own root cause analysis for billing issues: When invoices, subscriptions, entitlements, taxation, or payments misbehave, find the real root cause and ensure engineering fixes it. Quantify the impact so engineering knows what to prioritize.
  • Ensure new product integrations bill correctly: Own billing correctness for new product launches, from payment to revenue accounting. Define and run end-to-end tests, catch edge cases before launch, and advise engineering on implementation.
  • Own month-end reconciliation: Investigate differences between billing and accounting systems, explain every variance, and log root causes to prevent recurrence.
  • Design scalable solutions to operational problems: Replace manual work and recurring escalations with automation, AI agents, or better system design.
  • Build your own tooling: Write SQL to answer questions, scripts to resolve thousands of accounts instead of one, and use AI tooling across analysis, investigation, and documentation.
  • Run programs, not just tickets: The surface area is wide, and you’ll have real influence over where effort is focused. Pick the highest-impact problem area, break it down, align stakeholders, and drive it to a measurable outcome.

Requirements

  • Experience at a high-scale technology business, ideally with a self-serve motion.
  • A track record of owning ambiguous problems end-to-end and driving them to measurable outcomes.
  • Strong SQL proficiency and comfort working with large datasets.
  • Familiarity with Python for scripting and light automation.
  • Solid understanding of how systems integrate: APIs, webhooks, and event-driven flows.
  • Hands-on experience with AI tooling in your daily workflow.
  • Program management and process improvement experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Investigative and detail-oriented mindset; you seek the actual root cause rather than a plausible explanation.
  • A bias toward diving straight into data and resolving problems without waiting for direction.
  • Analytical ability to distinguish anecdotes from patterns and quantify differences.
  • Systems thinking to fix classes of problems rather than single instances.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with billing or subscription systems (Stripe, Zuora, or similar).
  • Experience with fraud, payment abuse, chargebacks, or trust and safety investigations.
  • Experience running end-to-end validation across multiple systems.
  • Familiarity with the finance side of quote-to-cash.

Benefits

Cloudflare is a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company with a soul. Fundamental to our mission is protecting the free and open Internet through initiatives like:

  • Project Galileo: Since 2014, we’ve equipped over 2,400 journalism and civil society organizations in 111 countries with powerful tools to defend against attacks that would otherwise censor their work—at no cost.
  • Athenian Project: Created in 2017 to ensure state and local governments have the highest level of protection and reliability for free, providing services to over 425 local government election websites across 33 states.
  • 1.1.1.1: A faster, more secure, and privacy-centric public DNS resolver available to everyone. We don’t store client IP addresses, and no user data is sold to advertisers or used to target consumers.

This position may require access to information protected under U.S. export control laws, including the U.S. Export Administration Regulations. Offers may be conditioned on authorization to receive software or technology controlled under these laws without sponsorship for an export license.
