BUSINESS OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE
Forty Acres Fresh Market is an independent grocery business dedicated to making high-quality, fresh food more accessible to Chicago residents regardless of zip code. We offer a flexible, personalized grocery experience with seasonal pop-up markets, year-round produce delivery, and an Austin neighborhood grocery store to bridge barriers to access. About the role
The Business Operations Associate (BOA) assists in operations for markets and delivery service, reporting directly to the Sourcing & Fulfillment Supervisor. This hands-on position involves executing delivery service, pop-up markets, and produce stands. Adaptability, attention to detail, and adherence to instructions are key to success. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, a love of food, and a passion for strengthening local food systems.
Responsibilities
- Receive and fulfill customer orders (weighing, packing, etc.) using an online ordering and inventory management system
- Handle cash and provide customer service
- Set up and break down pop-up markets and produce stands, including assembling shelving units, equipment setup, disassembling, transporting inventory, and janitorial duties
- Manage inventory, including processing damaged product, updating inventory systems, audits, and monitoring product quality
- Build product displays
- Perform residential and commercial deliveries throughout Chicago and western suburbs
- General cashiering and front-end tasks: ring up purchases, bag groceries, assist customers with bags
- Assist in procurement, including loading and unloading transport vehicles
- Other related tasks as needed
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License (required for inventory pickup, deliveries, and transporting equipment/inventory)
- Exceptional customer service skills, including verbal and electronic communication
- Ability to use productivity apps (Google Sheets, Google Docs) via phone or tablet
- Weekend availability
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand for up to 8 hours
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for order packing, cashiering, and inventory tracking
- Ability to follow written instructions and processes
- Attention to detail and diligence in task performance
- Team player with strong interpersonal skills
- Daily access to email
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree
- Strong communication skills
- Experience driving cargo vans and larger vehicles
- Cash handling or cashiering experience
- 1-2 years of customer service experience
Pay
Starting at $17.25/hour + tips on delivery shifts
Schedule
Part-time: 15-20 hours per week, primarily morning and afternoon shifts
Day-to-day duties include operating company-owned vehicles (inventory pickup, customer deliveries), requiring coverage under the company insurance policy. A driver’s license with no record of accidents in the last 5 years is required.
