About the role

The Role As a Business Manager, you will hold supervisory responsibility for a small/medium group of employees involved in the paint repair process. You will support the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment and participate in training and developing salaried and hourly employees. Work can be of a technical nature using independent judgment within the limits of GMS, focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). You will support all paint floor activities (pilots, re-builds, customer reviews, etc.) while helping to meet or exceed production cost schedule and maintain quality requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain good working relationships with employees, union, and management.
  • Understand and consistently administer the National and Local agreements between GM and the UAW.
  • Maintain plant floor operations (utilizing PR&T).
  • Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements.
  • Must be willing to rotate shifts or cover off shift hours, including weekends as needed.
  • Must be willing to cover Shift Lead in their absence.
  • Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health, safety, and housekeeping.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Allocate manpower for the shift and manage on roll.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with manufacturing systems
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience leading teams, including represented and non-represented team members
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with the Global Manufacturing System (GMS)
  • Knowledge and experience with Business Plan Deployment (BPD)
  • Coach, teach, and mentor Group Leaders

Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with the overall painting process
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with PR&TM
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Kronos
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with HCC (Hourly Communication Channel)
  • Knowledge and experience with Throughput Improvement Process (TIP)
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • Plant H&S policies and procedures
