Business Intelligence Engineer II, Middle Mile Planning & Optimization
About the role
We are looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer to lead innovation and exploration that will drive the future of Middle Mile Transportation at Amazon. The Middle Mile Transportation Technology team builds complex software solutions that optimize the time and cost of package delivery across vendors, warehouses, and carriers. Our services handle thousands of requests per second, impact billions of dollars annually, and integrate with a global network of carriers and drivers. Our mission is to build the most efficient transportation solution on the planet using big data, machine learning, and optimization techniques.
You will collaborate with executive leaders, engineering, science, and operations stakeholders to drive process improvement, generate ideas, validate entitlement, and produce a path to production. This role requires both strategic leadership and hands-on tactical execution, diving deeply into business and technical domains.
Responsibilities
- Generate insightful analysis, reporting, and data visualizations to answer critical business questions, proactively identify trends, and communicate business performance.
- Translate data into actionable insights for stakeholders while identifying new areas of opportunity to drive improvements.
- Apply expertise in data mining and modeling using multiple data sources to uncover insights, identify key performance drivers, and build predictive models.
- Work backwards from the end-customer to define, design, and execute work items with an emphasis on improved metrics, productivity, and efficiency.
- Adopt best practices in reporting and analysis, including data integrity, test design, validation, and documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, or an equivalent quantitative field.
- 3+ years of experience analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL, or similar technologies.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Quicksight, or similar.
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
- Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and scripting (Python) for data processing and modeling.
- Experience with statistical analysis packages such as R, SAS, or MATLAB.
- Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift.
- Experience developing, deploying, and managing AI products at scale.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, or an equivalent quantitative field.
- 5+ years of experience analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL, or similar technologies.
- Advanced skills in Excel and data visualization tools like Tableau.
- Experience in data mining, ETL, and working with large-scale, complex datasets in a business environment.
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs.
- Experience managing, analyzing, and communicating results to senior leadership.
Pay
Base salary ranges by location:
- Minneapolis, MN: $99,500 - $160,000 USD annually
- Nashville, TN: $94,600 - $160,000 USD annually
- Bellevue, WA: $99,500 - $160,000 USD annually
Compensation package includes sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
