Business Insurance Underwriting Professional Development Program (BI UPDP) Internship
About the role
Travelers is a property casualty insurer with over 170 years of history, committed to innovation and collaboration. The Business Insurance Underwriting Professional Development Internship Program offers a 10‑week internship (early June to mid‑August) that provides hands‑on commercial insurance underwriting experience, on‑the‑job training, and exposure to the property and casualty industry, including work with Risk Control, Claims, and corporate functions. Interns receive a coach, complete core assignments, professional development courses, project work, and may present findings to leadership. Housing assistance is not provided.
Responsibilities
- Complete core assignments and training modules on insurance and underwriting principles.
- Participate and complete self‑paced professional development courses in time management, presentation skills, and other key areas.
- Complete challenging and meaningful project work (e.g., territorial risk assessment, business process analysis) as assigned, independently or with other interns, and present findings to local leadership.
- Learn to leverage modern analytical and AI tools/platforms, applying critical thinking to evaluate limitations of AI‑assisted outputs.
- Learn about other areas at Travelers such as Risk Control, Claims, and related corporate functions; may engage in agency visits with Account Executives.
- Participate in the Enterprise Internship experience (Executive Speaker Series, Networking events, Rising Senior Intern Symposium).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Pursuing or have obtained a Bachelor’s degree.
- Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Liberal Arts (with business focus preferred), Management, Marketing, Risk Management and Insurance.
Skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Pay
The hourly salary range for this position is $25.00 – $26.00 (nationwide market range). The actual hourly rate will be based on scope, complexity, location, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, and other employment conditions. Interns are also eligible for performance‑based cash incentive awards as part of Travelers’ comprehensive compensation and benefits program.
