Business Financial Planning and Risk Analyst
About the Role
Provide business consulting services to designated management groups for a broad range of financial and business issues. Promote sound business decisions in the areas of planning, scheduling, budgeting, financial analysis, control, and effective risk management in support of Energy Northwest-wide business requirements. Monitor customer business practices for compliance with Energy Northwest business and financial policies. Ensure that cost and budget practices conform with generally accepted accounting principles, industry standards, and contractual requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development, coordination, tracking, and execution of corporate budget development, budget change management, staffing control and reporting, and senior management financial reporting with minimal supervision.
- Develop and monitor organizational cost performance vs. budget by analyzing variances and cost trends, and develop recommendations for corrective actions.
- Provide monthly financial summaries to supported managers and projects.
- Support Capital and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) project controls and Earned Value Management System (EVMS) information.
- Provide technical direction and assistance to project managers and engineers in using tools and processes for developing project scope, detailed project schedules, cost estimates, and perform financial analysis and control activities.
- Recommend correctative action to recover cost and schedule to established baselines.
- Maintain, improve, and monitor the Columbia Station (CGS) Long-range Plan (LRP) used to determine Capital and Expense projects in accordance with procedure requirements, including the LRP for corporate and ESD.
- Ensure key risks related to these activities have been identified and compensating internal controls are in place and institutionalized.
- Demonstrate understanding of Change Management processes.
- Exhibit proactive collaboration within the department and with external customers, along with leadership qualities in leading team initiatives or projects.
- Perform special assignments using knowledge gained through experience and education, including conducting benchmarking studies for business-related issues.
- Participate on the Emergency Response team (ERO) when designated.
- Support the biennial refueling outage.
Requirements
Qualifications vary by level:
- Business Financial Planning and Risk Analyst IV:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 10 years of industrial-level experience in financial/accounting/budgeting/risk positions, preferably within a large company or profit center, or
- AA degree and 12 years of industrial-level experience, or
- High school diploma or GED and 14 years of industrial-level experience.
- Business Financial Planning and Risk Analyst III:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 7 years of industrial-level experience, or
- AA degree and 9 years of industrial-level experience, or
- High school diploma or GED and 11 years of industrial-level experience.
- Business Financial Planning and Risk Analyst II:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 6 years of industrial-level experience, or
- AA degree and 8 years of industrial-level experience, or
- High school diploma or GED and 10 years of industrial-level experience.
- Business Financial Planning and Risk Analyst I:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 3 years of industrial-level experience, or
- AA degree and 5 years of industrial-level experience, or
- High school diploma or GED and 7 years of industrial-level experience.
A Master’s degree in Business Administration or Finance from an accredited college or university can be substituted for two years of experience.

- Business Financial Planning and Risk Analyst IV: $126,362 - $189,542 (Midpoint: $157,952)
- Business Financial Planning and Risk Analyst III: $109,870 - $164,806 (Midpoint: $137,338)
- Business Financial Planning and Risk Analyst II: $95,532 - $143,298 (Midpoint: $119,415)
- Business Financial Planning and Risk Analyst I: $83,125 - $124,687 (Midpoint: $103,906)
Typically, selected candidates are hired between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience and qualifications, market rate, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.
This role may be eligible to participate in the annual incentive plan, with incentives earned based on employee performance against defined metrics and company goals.
