About the Role
We are seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Business Development Coordinator to join our team in Boston, Chicago, or the District of Columbia. The successful candidate will report to a Senior Business Development Manager and play a pivotal role in supporting the firm's business development initiatives, working closely with partners and practice groups to enhance client relationships and drive growth. This position requires a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills and a baseline understanding of the legal industry.
Responsibilities
- Business Development – Develop a deep knowledge of the firm’s attorneys, clients, experience, and capabilities and translate this knowledge into compelling value propositions for new business generation. Prepare standard and custom pitch materials; assist with responses to RFPs and proposals; and assist with the development of business development presentations. Track outcomes.
- Practice and Industry Group Management – Assist with drafting and executing business plans, develop meeting agendas, coordinate and participate in practice and industry group meetings, develop and monitor BD budgets, and implement other strategic business development efforts for assigned groups.
- Collateral & Experience Database – Assist with development and maintenance of marketing materials, including practice group descriptions, brochures, lawyer biographies, presentations, case/transaction lists, intranet/website/blog content, and other collateral as needed. Maintain and regularly update experience database; ensuring matters are well-written and appropriate permissions for use are in place. Update representative client lists and matter/deal descriptions.
- Legal Directories & Survey Submissions – Assist with ranking and award submissions (Chambers, The Legal 500, and other key ranking directories), including drafting submissions, coordinating follow-up, and monitoring and reporting on results.
- Strategic Research – In collaboration with the department research analyst, coordinate competitive intelligence research on prospective targets, industries, markets, and competition.
- Memberships, Sponsorships, and Conferences – Coordinate the firm’s participation in seminars, sponsorships, and conferences, including identifying and evaluating external sponsorship and speaking opportunities and ensuring effective participation.
- Liaise and build relationships with other business service departments at the firm, including Finance, Conflicts, Diversity, Office of the General Counsel, and more to facilitate information gathering for RFPs and pitches.
- Other duties as assigned to meet business development goals and objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Business, Communications, or Marketing related concentration preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of marketing or business development experience.
- General understanding of the role of business development within a law firm environment required.
- Prior law firm or professional services experience preferred.
- Experience with CRMs, content management systems, and proposal generation tools a plus.
- Excellent spelling, grammar, proofreading, and written communication skills.
- High level of interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressure.
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with attorneys, professional staff, team members, client development executives, other law firm administrative departments, and others.
- Strong time management skills and demonstrated experience managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, as well as solid judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with various AI tools and best practices.
- Flexibility to occasionally adjust work schedule according to workload demands and evolve with position as required.
Pay
This is an hourly, non-exempt position eligible for a generous overtime plan that exceeds minimum legal requirements. The anticipated good-faith base salary range for this position is $60,628 to $83,364 per year in DC, Chicago, or Boston. Your exact offer will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, your experience, skills, and overall qualifications. Certain positions are eligible for a comprehensive performance-based bonus, payable monthly or annually.
