Business Banking Underwriter III
About the role
Within a loan production environment, adjudicate new, renewal and modification loan applications typically for larger, more complex relationships and loan structures and industry specific lending. Accurately and thoroughly communicate loan decisions to internal personnel and, if applicable, conditions of approval. Maintain acceptable credit quality metrics within the underwriter's individual portfolio. Assist with reporting and monitoring requirements as needed. Assist management with various department related requirements including Asset Quality, Loan Reviews, Audits, policy and procedures, etc.
Responsibilities
- Within individual authority, adjudicate customer credit requests in accordance to bank policy and procedure, as well as all applicable regulations.
- Analyze each applicant's cash flow, overall financial condition, credit history, and other credit criteria. Apply this information, in conjunction with the bank's policy and procedures to make appropriate decisions within individual lending authority.
- Make decisions in a timely manner that supports the bank's ability to deliver superior customer service within agreed upon service level agreements.
- Analyze loan requests above individual lending authority and make recommendations to present to senior underwriters for decision and approval.
- Aid management with various department related requirements including Asset Quality, Loan Reviews, Audits, policy and procedures, etc.
- Serve as a resource to internal partners in all areas of BB, including policy, procedures, loan structure, etc.
- Review, analyze and adjudicate loan requests presented by junior underwriters, offer guidance, and make decisions when appropriate. May be responsible for Quality Assurance reviews.
- Absent Underwriting Manager, assist as a backup.
- Recognize and take advantage of opportunities to obtain additional business.
Requirements
- BS in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance preferred
- MBA desirable
- 5 - 10 years previous commercial or business lending experience is required
- Understanding of governmental credit supports available to business loans (SBA programs) is required
Skills and Abilities
- Strong working knowledge of financial statements, tax returns, and credit reports
- Intermediate accounting knowledge with knowledge of various business structures with the ability to analyze financial statements and tax returns
- Prowess in windows based computer environment
- Aptitude to quickly develop a working knowledge of the Bank’s policy and procedures, products, accounting systems, and loan origination system
- Strong mathematical skills
- Self-motivated with strong communication, negotiation, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Able to work under critical time constraints while maintaining quality
- Able to build and maintain positive professional relationships with internal and external partners
- Able to mentor team members
- Knowledge of all application regulations and guidelines
Unique Job Characteristics and Requirements
The incumbent will be an individual contributor who will be making lending decisions and is expected to make prudent decisions balancing growth and the safety of the bank's assets. Appropriate financial skills and lending experience are necessary.
Education and Experience
BS in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance preferred
MBA desirable
5 - 10 years previous commercial or business lending experience is required
Understanding of governmental credit supports available to business loans (SBA programs) is required
