About the role
The Business Banker is responsible for providing financial services to companies to help them expand or maintain their business. This role involves obtaining, promoting, and managing a portfolio of existing and new loan customers, including cross-selling loans, products, and services while ensuring compliance with the Bank’s lending policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Manage relationships with business banking clients through service and support.
- Analyze the loan market to develop new loan prospects.
- Maintain and develop positive, professional relationships with customers to grow the portfolio.
- Foster customer relationships through routine calls, meetings, and business development activities.
- Analyze applicants’ financial status, credit, and property evaluations to determine loan feasibility; approve or deny loan applications.
- Compile loan documentation and facilitate loan structure with applicants, ensuring commitment letters are prepared and delivered.
- Understand commercial real estate appraisals and review/evaluate them appropriately.
- Ensure timely loan closing and funding activities.
- Identify complex situations, review related information, and develop acceptable solutions.
- Stay informed and current on lending practices and communicate updates to the Bank’s policies as needed.
- Maintain a deep understanding of banking products/services to make appropriate recommendations.
- Develop strong professional relationships with other Bank departments, business lines, and vendors to cross-sell products and services.
- Provide quality customer service through problem resolution and consistent communication via onsite visits and outbound calls.
- Analyze financial and related data to establish creditworthiness.
- Conduct business development calls to current and prospective clients.
- Compile complete and accurate loan packages.
- Resolve client problems and assist with general inquiries.
- Develop new financial products based on market research.
- Stay ahead of competing banks in terms of products and services offered to companies.
- Assist clients in raising equity capital.
- Support the Sr. Business Banker with strategic investments to help clients fulfill business goals.
- Stay updated on new and existing bank products and services.
- Work to minimize fraud and prevent financial losses for the bank.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Business Management, or a related field (required).
- Master’s degree (preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in commercial banking, credit, or a related function, with proven results.
- Certification in Banking Services Management, Certified Leader Business Banker (CLBB), or equivalent designation.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Knowledge of Federal and State regulations covering commercial banking activities.
- Ability to collaborate with bank and branch partners.
- Formal Credit Training (e.g., Analysis of Business and Personal Tax Returns) preferred.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of customer information.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to develop, communicate, and implement plans supporting the Bank’s goals.
- Creative problem solver with strong change management, organizational, and planning capabilities.
- Self-motivated with effective time and project management skills, including strong attention to detail.
- Ability to identify, understand, and define problems, evaluate alternatives, set priorities, and implement high-quality solutions.
- Strong organizational skills to manage and communicate multiple projects and priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with adequate keyboarding skills.
Work Environment
This role operates in a typical office environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing. It requires frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination for office equipment, as well as oral and auditory capacity for interpersonal and automated communication.
Byline Bank supports a hybrid work environment for this position, combining remote and in-office work with occasional visits to the office based on business needs. Specific in-office days may vary and will be discussed during the interview process.
Pay
The salary range for this position is between $104,000 and $129,000, plus incentive opportunities. Byline Bank offers competitive industry-rate salary bands and regularly reviews compensation to ensure equity across teams and levels.
